What are Soft Tissue Techniques?

Alongside massage, Soft Tissue Therapy includes the use of various techniques to further assist the release of tension through muscles allowing them to relax and reduce pain. The techniques I use during your treatment are described below.

Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) which allows for tense muscles to be restored to normal tone, increases joint mobility and improves musculoskeletal function whilst strengthening weak muscles.

Neuromuscular Techniques (NMT) uses deep focused pressure for a period of time in areas of excessive soft tissue tension to connect to the nervous system to normalise the muscle tone and release tension.

Soft Tissue Release (STR) allows for tense muscles to be glided into a stretch, allowing for the release of tension and adhesions in the muscle fibres.

Positional Release Techniques (PRT) allows for the force to be taken off tense muscles enabling them to relax.

Myofascial Release Techniques (MRT) involve strong rolling strokes through the fascial layers to break through adhesions that can restrict function.
